বায়েজিদ বস্তামী ছোটবেলা থেকেই মাকে অত্যন্ত সম্মান ও ভালোবাসা করতেন। এক রাতে তাঁর অসুস্থ মা খুব তৃষ্ণার্ত হয়ে পানি চাইলে বায়েজিদ কলসিতে পানি খুঁজে পেলেন না। তিনি দ্বিধা না করে দূরের কূপ থেকে পানি আনতে রাতের অন্ধকারে বের হলেন। অনেক কষ্টে পানি এনে দেখলেন, মা ঘুমিয়ে পড়েছেন। তিনি মাকে জাগালেন না। বরং হাতের গ্লাস নিয়ে সারা রাত মায়ের মাথার পাশে দাঁড়িয়ে রইলেন। ভোরে মা ঘুম থেকে উঠে ছেলেকে দেখে আবেগে কেঁদে ফেললেন। তিনি সন্তানের এই ভালোবাসায় গভীরভাবে স্পর্শিত হলেন এবং তাঁর জন্য আন্তরিক দোয়া করলেন। পরে এই দোয়া বায়েজিদের জীবনে বরকত নিয়ে আসে।
